SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announces that Spirit Energy has taken an important step towards unlocking operational cost savings and driving future efficiency opportunities, by deepening its partnership with SAP. Previously using an on-premise SAP S/4HANA system, the energy producer completed its RISE with SAP migration in just four months.
The move comes as Spirit Energy continues its strategic transformation from traditional natural gas production operations to a focus on responsibly decommissioning legacy assets and exploring energy transition opportunities. With RISE with SAP, the organisation will seek to optimise costs in its existing portfolio and reallocate resources towards the critical energy transition initiative of carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS).
Backed by more than a decade of SAP support, Spirit Energy’s move to the cloud will look to reduce its total cost of ownership, streamline its operations, empower innovation and enable more informed decisions in support of its strategic objectives.
The seamless migration was a result of close collaboration between Spirit Energy, SAP and AG Consultancy and Apps. AG led the scoping, migration planning, and delivery of this project. By leveraging RISE with SAP and utilising BTP Build, AG is helping Spirit Energy to streamline its landscape and replace legacy non-SAP solutions.
In addition to its cloud migration, Spirit Energy plans to explore the potential of Generative AI technologies in building a more intelligent and dynamic enterprise environment. By integrating SAP’s AI assistant, Joule, the company aims to further enhance decision making and automation, ensuring operations are more efficient and sustainable.
“Business transformation, like a decision to move from natural gas production towards carbon capture and storage, needs to be driven by an intelligent enterprise with robust digital infrastructure,” says Leila Romane, Managing Director of SAP UKI. “With our long history of working together, Spirit Energy has placed its trust in us to help deliver its transformation, backed by the resilience and support of cloud solutions and AI.”
Andy Williams, IT Director of Spirit Energy says: “From the outset, SAP proved to be the right partner to support our immediate needs and future ambitions. In just four months, we successfully transitioned from aging infrastructure to RISE, laying the foundation for our long-term strategic objectives. With a modern cloud landscape, Spirit Energy is well-positioned to benefit from future innovations, supporting our carbon capture transition”.
Spirit Energy’s use of SAP to enhance operational efficiency, sustainability progress, and safety was recognised with a 2024 SAP UK Customer Success Award. Spirit Energy, AG Consultancy and Apps and SAP will continue to explore co-innovation projects in the UK and Europe.
