InfinityQS Champions Benefits of Food Standard Regulations
Food standard regulations can appear as an imposition, but if embraced wholeheartedly they provide the opportunity for businesses to look beyond the initial realm of food safety and directly impact both culture and operations. Doing so will not only make for safer food but also can save money and improve the quality of product, according to quality control software provider InfinityQS.

In the age of social media and savvy consumers, prevention of food safety issues through proactive measures has never been so urgent and important. News travels remarkably quickly - and the internet has a long memory, with even past food recalls from some time ago able to harm brand reputation.

In light of this InfinityQS have identified seven critical tools that those involved in food production can embrace which will not only support food safety, prevention and traceability practices but also allows firms to drive higher levels of manufacturing productivity and quality across their supply chains. An InfinityQS spokesperson commented:

“The increasing availability of tools that are able to drive higher levels of manufacturing productivity and quality provides an opportunity for organisations to embrace a fresh mindset, instead of one that is entrenched in the bureaucracy and red-tape that often follows, when adhering to prevention and traceability regulations within food safety.

“Moreover, the availability of new solutions driven by cloud services, provide an opening to extend control of these tools beyond your own four walls and to that of your suppliers. This increases your ability to demonstrate greater best-practice while ultimately making it much easier to meet stringent food safety requirements. As a result of this we have identified seven critical tools organisations can embrace in order to ensure they are able to effectively manage new legislation and requirements:

A centralised quality data hub - Managing growing data volumes across multiple views including lines, sites and plants is a significant challenge for any business. Centralising your product quality and safety data in one place gives you visibility across your entire enterprise. This allows you to identify potential issues and focus your time and resources on pro-actively solving problems.

Universal naming conventions – Monitoring food quality and safety requires access to data that can be easily sifted to quickly identify potential problems. One small way to make data easy to navigate is the use of universal naming conventions. With common naming conventions and a centralised data hub, you can produce a report that allows you to quickly identify which plant and line produced the problematic product. The aggregated data can be quickly retrieved across the enterprise, ensuring you can correct the problem sooner; often before the produce leaves the plant or even production line, avoiding costly and brand impacting recalls.

Dynamic sampling reminders – Sampling and testing food early in the production process is critical to food safety. It’s no longer enough to sample or inspect food once it has come off the production line. With automated sampling reminders, busy operators in complex manufacturing environments can make sure quality and safety checks take place on time.

Real-time statistical process control (SPC) - Prevention isn’t possible if you’re reviewing old data about products that have already come off the line or if you’re reviewing defect data with little-to-no context. With SPC data analytics and control charts that update in real-time, you can catch potential problems before they result in ruined food.

Automated alarms – Automated alarms can be used to alert key personnel when tests violate specification, warning or control limits. Alarms help you stay on top of potential problems without constant monitoring of every line in every plant.

Lot genealogy reports – With lot genealogy reports, you have a complete view of the incoming/outgoing product relationship. This allows you to track raw material lot codes throughout manufacturing operations.

Cloud-based food safety management – Cloud-based quality management technologies offer distinct benefits for food manufacturers. Supported by world-class hosting partners, these solutions are highly secure and available. For manufacturers with limited IT resources, they eliminate the burden of hardware and software maintenance.
